Met Gala. The once a year is a costume benefit that is used as a fundraiser for the Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. Being invited to the Met Gala is definitely glorified and a great opportunity for celebrities to show off one of their greatest looks. This year the Met Gala theme was not very specific but generally was supposed to exemplify “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.” Of the many celebrities that appeared at the Met Gala, some met the theme, and some didn’t. this article details some of the most talked about looks in the 2021 Met Gala.
One cannot discuss the Met Gala without mentioning these top seven individuals:
Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, a New York Congresswoman, wore a white gown with the words “Tax the Rich” in big red letters on the back of her dress. She met lots of controversy for wearing the dress. Many people congratulated her speaking up for others when among very influential and wealthy people, while others stated her dress was contradictory because she paid a $30,000 ticket to go to the gala, and indeed would be considered the rich that should be taxed. Regardless of the controversy, the beautiful dress was made by Aurora James and truly set Cortez apart.
Kendall Jenner came dressed in a beautiful Givenchy see through dress that paid homage to Audrey Hepburn. The dress seemed to be composed on diamonds in a format not usually seen on dresses and was known as the “Naked Dress.” Jenner looked absolutely breathtaking and was one of the highlights of the night by many celebrities. Jenner put a video of the Hepburn dress on her Instagram story before arriving at the Gala.
Iman was absolutely stunning with her large gold dress. Her feathered overskirt like dress was coupled with a large golden headwear that was designed by Harris Reed. Her look was apparently inspired by “America’s golden age” and like her outfit, she was shining throughout the night.
Rihanna was the last celebrity to arrive at the Met Gala in a truly fashionable, black Balenciaga overcoat. The large piece of designer was made by Denna Gvasalia and was an interesting take on the American fashion theme. Of course, Rihanna arrived with her boyfriend, ASAP Rocky, who wore an ERL quilt in multiple colors.
Megan Fox was draped in a bright and stunning red dress. Complimentary to her new hair style, the dress was a red masterpiece that had a thigh slit and was designed by Peter Dundas. Fox told Palmer that she does face pressures of being a sex symbol in society, but instead embraces it. She stated that “[she’s] not afraid to be sexy…and also knows how to weaponize her beauty.”
Kim Kardashian must have the greatest eyesight in the world. She wore a unique, black, Balenciaga like suit that made her look both mysterious and gorgeous. She even had on a full-face mask without any eye slits on it and had a hole on the back of it so that her ponytail could be show exteriorly. Along side her, in an almost exact suit was her “partner,” Kanye West. The couple brought an interesting vibe to the gala and showed their cooperation in fashion choice.
Frank Ocean with his green hair appeared at the Met Gala with a green baby in his arms. The jacket Frank wore was Prada topped off with a white shirt. He also wore his own company, Homer, necklace which recently partnered with Prada.
