It’s a mere understatement to call Virgil Abloh an influencer on fashion. Virgil is known to be one of the most common innovators in modern fashion. He is the CEO of “Off-White” and also a director at “Louis Vuitton.” Amazing guy right? Well recently at a Spring Summer 2022 “Amen Break” show Abloh released to the public more than 20 Louis Vuitton and Nike collabs. Abloh was seen wearing Air Force 1 x Louis Vuitton and even posted an image of such on Instagram teasing that his “shoelaces just can’t be tied.” What makes this occurrence most astonishing is that the shoes themselves represent what people like to call “bootleg culture.”
“Bootleg Culture” is when people take what is already out in the fashion industry and place or create their own designs on the preexisting items in the market and can even include other brands featured on the item. Take the Nike x Dior Jordan 1s for example, while this was more of a collab than influence from “bootleg culture,” this represents how an already existent item is combined with new features. Virgil wearing these shoes has left many people on life curious about the shoe and have also acknowledged that the shoe was debuted in 1982.
For the first time in history an Air Force 1 is now including on the list of collaborations that were given an approved “bootleg culture” stamp available for purchase. Big cheers to Virgil for being the innovative soul he is and making everyone look down to see what shoes he has on.
